U-M Hosts Jack Harvey Invitational to Open Season

Opening up the morning's events in the pole vault, junior Candice Mullings (Marietta, Ga./Walton HS), senior Tiffany Sylvertooth (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti HS) and freshman Anna Fisher (Ann Arbor, Mich./Gabriel Richard HS) placed in the top three spots, respectively.
Freshman Teyonna Simpson (Fremont, Calif./Mission San Jose HS) made an impression on the collegiate scene as she placed first in the triple jump with a leap of 38-11 1/2. Fellow freshman Colleen Lange (Corunna, Mich./Corunna HS) gave an impressive performance today as well in the 3,000-meter run, winning the event with a time of 10:35.58.
The sprinters fared well as they took the top spots in five events. In the 60-meter hurdles, freshman Robin Landfair (Okemos, Mich./Okemos HS), junior Tasha Phillips (Sarasota, Fla./Booker HS) and freshman TeNisha Williams (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti HS) finished first through third, respectively.
In other sprinting events, freshman Carly Knazze (Southfield, Mich./Southfield HS) took the 400 meters by nearly two seconds with a time of 57.48 and placed second in the 200-meter dash. Senior Tamika Craig (Inkster, Mich./Dearborn Robichaud HS) edged the competition to finish first at 1:34.55. Rounding out the sprinter's success, senior Maria Brown (Kingston, Jamaica/Immaculate Conception HS) won the 60- and 200-meter dashes with times of 7.50 and 24.9, respectively.
The Wolverines will continue their season in Bloomingtion, Ind., next Saturday (Jan. 15) at the Indiana Quadrangular.
