Fuzesi, Sinclair Begin Season at National Clay Courts

A senior on this year's squad, Fuzesi came within a match of advancing to the qualifying portion of the tournament, losing in third-round action to No. 5 seed Lia Jackson of Northwestern in three sets (3-6, 6-4, 6-1). Fuzesi compiled a 2-1 record at the tournament and reached the third round by defeating University of Miami's Lauren Scaglione (6-4, 6-4) in the first round and Ohio State's Katherine Martin (6-1, 6-0) in the second round.
Sinclair,a junior, suffered a tough first-round loss that eliminated her from the championship. Sinclair won the first set but dropped the final two sets, falling to Penn State's Alison Barnett (3-6, 6-4, 6-2).
The women's tennis team will be represented by seniors Danielle Lund (Leominster, Mass./Leominster HS) and Brooke Hart (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson HS) in the qualifying portion of the tournament beginning Tuesday (Sept. 21). The duo will also team to play in the 16-team main draw doubles field starting Thursday (Sept. 23).
