WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The University of Michigan women's golf team finished in 10th place at the 1999 Big Ten Conference Championships, closing out the tournament with an impressive final round on Sunday (May 2). The Wolverines shot a combined 315 on the extremely difficult Kampen Course at Purdue University, matching the team's second-best round of the 1998-99 season.
Senior Sharon Park (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS) ended her career on a high as she shot an even-par 72 in the final round to finish in a tie for 17th place. Park was one of just two players in the entire tournament to shoot a round of par or better (Summerset Lovett of Ohio State shot a 71 in the final round). Park's 72 fell one shot shy of her career-best round of 71, set in the third round of last year's conference championship.
Other Wolverines competing included Amy Talbot (Plantation, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas HS), Trish Watkins (Darien, Conn./Darien HS), LeAnna Wicks (Brighton, Mich./Brighton HS), Bess Bowers (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington North HS) and Misia Lemanski (Grosse Ile, Mich./Grosse Ile HS).
Ohio State was the tournament champion, finishing 12 strokes ahead of second-place Indiana. Indiana's Erin Carney was the individual champion, finishing with a total of 301.
