College Hockey Showcase Presented by Ameritech Notes
Best of the Bunch
In the six-year history of the Ameritech College Hockey Showcase (CHS), Michigan owns an 8-3-1 record (.708), the best among the four teams involved.
Best of the Bunch II
Michigan has scored more goals (50) than any other team in the CHS. Michigan State and Minnesota have each scored 39 goals, while Wisconsin has netted just 26 goals. In goals allowed, the Wolverines also lead the way, giving up just 31 goals in 12 games. Michigan State has allowed 34 goals, while Minnesota and Wisconsin have allowed 41 and 48 goals, respectively.
The Last Six
The Wolverines are unbeaten in the last six CHS games. Since a loss to Minnesota in the second game of the 1995 Showcase, Michigan has posted a record of 5-0-1. Since the games were moved to campus sites for the 1997 Showcase, Michigan is 3-0-1, including a perfect 2-0-0 at Yost Ice Arena.
Scoring Leaders
Mark Kosick (Victoria, B.C.) leads all active scorers in the College Hockey Showcase with five points, all assists. Of the 19 active scorers among the four teams, Michigan and Michigan State each have six players on the list; however, the Wolverines' scorers have combined for 11 points (2-9-11), the most of any team.
Still on Top
With 11 goals and 13 assists for 24 points, sophomore Mike Comrie (Edmonton, Alberta) continues to lead the nation in scoring. Michigan State's Shawn Horcoff (5-18-23) is second to Comrie in the national standings.
A Decade Ago
Michigan's shutout loss to Lake Superior on Friday night (Nov. 19) was the first time in nearly 11 years the Wolverines had been held scoreless at Yost Ice Arena. The last such loss was a 3-0 defeat by Michigan State on Dec. 9, 1988.
Two-Loss Weekend
The Lakers were the last team to sweep the Wolverines at home in a weekend series when they beat Michigan 7-1 and 3-2 in a set of games on Jan. 6-7, 1989. Last season, Lake Superior (6-3 on Friday, Feb. 5) and Ohio State (3-2 on Saturday, Feb. 6) combined to hand the Wolverines their last two-loss weekend.
Home Ice Advantage
Despite last weekend's setback, Michigan is still outscoring its opponents 24-12, including a 14-4 edge in power-play goals, in games at Yost Ice Arena. The Wolverines also hold an advantage of 33-20 in shots per game at home.
Last Time With Lucia
The last time Red Berenson and Minnesota's first-year head coach Don Lucia battled was March 30, 1996, when Lucia was with Colorado College. In that game, Brendan Morrison scored on the Tigers' Ryan Bach in overtime to clinch Michigan's first national championship in 34 years.
Solid After Two
Michigan owns a 111-0-4 record in the last 115 games when leading after two periods. The streak dates back to Feb. 11, 1995, when Michigan led the University of Illinois-Chicago 4-3 after two periods before falling 5-4 in overtime.
In the CCHA ...

On the Horizon
-- Mark Kosick needs just seven more points to be the 64th Michigan hockey player to reach the 100-point plateau in a career. He has scored 33 goals and 60 assists for 93 points.
-- Kosick's 60 career assists are just 15 away from putting him among the top 50 all-time in career assists at Michigan.
-- In goals, Josh Langfeld (Coon Rapids, Minn.) needs just seven more goals to reach 50 in his career, which puts him among the top 50 all-time for goals in a career at Michigan.
-- Sean Peach (Langley, B.C.) needs just two more penalty minutes to reach 23rd all-time in penalty minutes in a career. With 25 more penalty minutes, he will enter the top 20 in career penalty minutes.
-- Mark Kosick, Josh Langfeld and Dave Huntzicker (Ann Arbor, Mich.) each played in their 100th career game on Saturday (Nov. 20) against Lake Superior State. Junior Geoff Koch (Exeter, N.H.) (95) and Scott Matzka (Port Huron, Mich.) (91) are both closing in on that mark.
