The Wolverines received a balanced team effort, spearheaded by senior Stacey Thomas' (Flint, Mich./Southwestern Academy) double-double performance of 13 points and 11 rebounds. Four Wolverines finished the game with double digits in points, led by Alison Miller (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven HS) with 15 points. Miller just missed a double-double of her own, finishing with nine rebounds. Michigan's rebounding efforts were led by freshman LeeAnn Bies (Lakeview, Mich./Lakeview HS), who grabbed 12 boards and scored eight points.
Michigan (1-0) led almost the entire way through the game. Colorado State scored the game's first point on a Roxanne Manning free throw in the opening minute, but that would be the last time Michigan trailed as the Wolverines maintained a steady first-half lead. CSU closed the gap late in the first period and the two schools went into the halftime break with Michigan clinging to a 28-27 lead.
Michigan came out strong in the second half, pushing the lead to 61-51 with less than 1:30 left in the game. The Rams would not go quietly, closing with four three-point field goals in the game's waning moments. However, a clutch lay-up by Miller and timely free throw shooting secured the Michigan victory.
The Wolverines close out their season-opening road trip with a game at the University of Colorado at 2 p.m. MST on Sunday (Nov. 21) in Boulder, Colo.
