#15 Michigan to Play #11 Arkansas in Orlando

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan football team, co-champions of the Big Ten Conference, will travel to Orlando, Fla., for its first-ever visit to the CompUSA Florida Citrus Bowl. The Wolverines (9-3) will face Arkansas (9-2), a first-time opponent, on Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at 1 p.m. EST in the Florida Citrus Bowl (70,349). The bowl selection was announced today (Dec. 6) by the CompUSA Florida Citrus Bowl selection committee.

The CompUSA Florida Citrus Bowl will be the 10th different bowl game in which the Wolverines will have played. It will be the seventh bowl game Michigan has played in the state of Florida, with its last trip to the Sunshine State two years ago for the 1997 Outback Bowl against Alabama in Tampa. The Wolverines own a 14-3-1 all-time record against Southeastern Conference schools, with a 2-2 mark against the SEC in bowl games.

The Wolverines will be making their 30th bowl trip and 24th consecutive post-season bid. Michigan's 1998 Big Ten championship was the 39th conference title for the Wolverine football team and the school's 300th conference crown in all sports.
