Senior right tackle Jon Jansen (Clawson, Mich./Clawson HS) started his 49th consecutive game in the Hawaii contest, tying the school record set by defensive tackle Mark Messner (1985-88). Jansen broke his second-place tie with offensive tackle Greg Skrepenak (1988-91) and wide receiver Vince Bean (1981-84). Jansen could become Michigan's first player to ever start 50 career games in the school's upcoming bowl game.
Wolverines Move to 2-0 Against Hawaii
Michigan won its second game in as many tries against Hawaii. The Wolverines earned a 48-17 victory today and beat the Rainbow Warriors by a 27-10 score in 1986. Hawaii is one of 75 different football programs to which the Wolverines have never lost a game.
Michigan Against Western Athletic Conference
With their 48-17 victory over Hawaii, the Wolverines are now 5-1 against schools from the Western Athletic Conference. The school's only loss came to Brigham Young (24-17) in 1984 Holiday Bowl while the Wolverines are 4-0 in regular-season matchups.
Ray Intercepts First Pass of the Year
Senior safety Marcus Ray (Columbus, Ohio/Eastmoor HS) collected his first interception of the year on a desperation pass to end the first half. Ray returned his 10th career interception for 28 yards. The 28-yard effort moved his career interception return yardage to 169, jumping four slots to fifth in career yardage at Michigan. Ray finished the game with two tackles and the game's lone interception.
Streets Climbs Receiving Charts
Senior wide receiver Tai Streets (Matteson, Ill./Thornton Township HS) finished the Hawaii game with five receptions for 90 yards and two touchdowns. Streets' two TDs were his second multiple-touchdown game this year (caught two against Indiana), and he has scored in nine of the team's 12 games this season. Streets has 11 touchdowns this year, which ranks tied for third in season records while his 19 career TDs list fourth. Streets moved into third in career receptions (137) and lists fourth in career receiving yards (2,155). He has 61 receptions for 906 yards this season.
Thomas Surpasses 100-Yard Mark, Scores Four TDs
Sophomore running back Anthony Thomas (Winnfield, La./Winnfield HS) gained a career-best 183 yards rushing on 13 carries vs. Hawaii and scored a career-best four touchdowns on runs of 38, 4, 16 and 80 yards. He also made one reception for 35 yards and returned one kickoff for 24 yards in the game.
Epstein Make Debut at Punter
Freshman Hayden Epstein (Cardiff, Calif./Torrey Pines HS) made his career debut as Michigan's punter in the Hawaii game. Epstein punted four times for a 40.3-yard average and knocked all four punts inside the Hawaii 20-yard line. He also kicked off eight times with six resulting in touchbacks (the other two were returned from inside the end zone).
