This is the eighth game in 10 years and fourth consecutive year that the Michigan-Ohio State game had Big Ten title and Rose Bowl implications on the line. The 1992 and 1994 games were the only contests that the game did not have the conference title and bowl berth at stake.
Brady Throws for a School Record 375 Yards
Junior quarterback Tom Brady (San Mateo, Calif./Serra HS) passed for a school-record 375 yards against Ohio State. The 375-yard effort surpassed the previous school record of 372 yards set by senior Scott Dreisbach (Mishawaka, Ind./Penn HS) vs. Virginia on August 26, 1995. Brady connected on 31-of-56 passes with one touchdown. His 31 completions and 56 attempts were both school records, breaking the previous bests of 29 (Todd Collins vs. Oklahoma State, Sept. 19, 1992) and 52 (Dreisbach vs. Virginia).
Streets and Knight Reach 100 Yards Receiving
Senior split end Tai Streets (Matteson, Ill./Thornton Township HS) and junior flanker Marcus Knight (Sylacauga, Ala./Comer HS) both reached the 100-yard receiving mark against Ohio State. Streets caught nine passes for 118 yards and one touchdown while Knight had seven receptions for 116 yards. Streets surpassed the 2,000-yard mark in career receiving yards in the Ohio State and now has 2,014 yards. He ranks sixth all-time in career receiving yards at Michigan, and his 132 career receptions are tied for fourth.
Jansen Ties Offensive Line Starting Mark
Senior right tackle Jon Jansen (Clawson, Mich./Clawson HS) tied the shool record for starts by an offensive lineman in the Ohio State game. Jansen made his 48th consecutive starting assigment and tied offensive tackle Greg Skrepenak (1988-91) for top honors among offensive lineman. He is also tied with wide receiver Vince Bean (1981-84) for the second-most starts by a Michigan player. Next week at Hawaii, Jansen could tie the school record of 49 starts set by defensive tackle Mark Messner (1985-88).
Milestone Starts
Seniors Tai Streets and Jerame Tuman (Liberal, Kan./Liberal HS) made their 35th career starts in the Ohio State game. Junior defensive tackle Josh Williams (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek HS) made his 20th start in the OSU game while junior offensive lineman Steve Frazier (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood HS) and sophomore cornerback James Whitley (Norfolk, Va./Norview HS) made their 10th starts.
Sword Reaches 100-Tackle Plateau for Season
Senior linebacker Sam Sword (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill HS) led the Wolverines with 14 tackles against Ohio State. He broke the 100-tackle plateau this season and has a new career high with 110. Sword moved into ninth with 363 career tackles at Michigan, surpassing Steve Morrison (360, 1990-94).
Carr's Streaks Come to an End
Fourth-year Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr had his three-game winning streak against Ohio State snapped with the 31-16 loss. He also lost his first career game against a top 10 ranked team (9-1) while his record is now 14-7 against nationally ranked opponents.
