An Ann Arbor native, Sue Foster was a six-time Big Ten champion at Michigan. In 1982, she was recognized as an All-American for both indoor and outdoor track and earned All-Big Ten honors in cross country. She finished third at the 1982 AIAW National Championship in the 1,500 meters. In 1983, Foster set the all-time Michigan record for the 1,500-meter run at 4:11.23. Â After graduation, Foster was ranked the fifth-fastest women in the United States in the 1,500 and tried out for the 1984 Olympics. In 1997, she was inducted into the Michigan Women's Track and Field Hall of Fame.
