As the only 12-time letterwinner in Michigan history, Pete Elliott received four varsity ‘M’s in football, basketball and golf. Like his brother Bump, Pete was recognized as an All-America football player. Pete guided the Maize and Blue from his quarterback position to the 1948 national title. He was also a member of Big Ten championship teams in golf in 1946 and '47 and basketball in 1948. Along with being a remarkable athlete, Pete was honored with the Big Ten Medal of Honor, representing the individual who combines athletics and academics in the highest form. From 1956 to 1966, Pete was head football coach at Nebraska, California and Illinois. He has a Pac-10 championship, a Big Ten championship and a Rose Bowl victory to his credit.
