Jack Weisenburger

A switch in positions transformed Jack Weisenburger from a reserve to one of the best fullbacks ever to play for Michigan. A strong and athletic runner, Weisenburger played behind Bob Chappuis until he moved in front of him to be his blocking back. Weisenburger helped the Wolverines compile a 31-7-1 record from 1944-47, including a Rose Bowl and national title in his final game in uniform. After helping Chappuis rush for 531 yards in only 102 carries (5.2 average) in 1946, Weisenburger himself led the team in rushing during the 1947 campaign, rolling up 773 yards in 121 attempts (6.4 average). He tied Bump Elliott for the team scoring title in 1947 by tallying 10 touchdowns. Weisenburger's talents were not limited to the gridiron, as he lettered for legendary U-M baseball coach Ray Fisher from 1945-48. After he helped the Wolverines win Big Ten titles in 1945 and '48, Weisenburger played in the Boston Braves' minor league system for five years.
