Glenn "Bo" Schembechler

In the spirit of Fielding Yost, Glenn E. "Bo" Schembechler faithfully served the University of Michigan for 22 years between 1969 and 1990. During his 21 years of coaching, Michigan compiled a record of 194-48-5, winning 13 Big Ten titles and playing in 16 bowl games. He served as Athletic Director for 18 months while and after he served as football coach. Schembechler lettered in football and baseball at Miami (Ohio). After a brief stint in the Army, Schembechler was an assistant coach at four schools before taking the head job at Miami in 1963. In six year,s he went 40-17-3 with two MAC championships. He stepped in to replace Bump Elliott at Michigan after the 1968 season and capped his first regular season in 1969 with a stunning upset of Ohio State. When he retired, Bo was the winningest active coach in Division I-A. With Bo as the athletic director, Michigan won two Big Ten football titles and an NCAA basketball crown. From 1990 to 1992, Schembechler served as the president of the Detroit Tigers baseball franchise while working as a college football broadcaster for ABC sports. A member of the Miami and Michigan Halls of Fame, Bo is also enshrined in the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame and the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame.
