Forest Evashevski

A native of Detroit, Forest Evashevski suited up for Fritz Crisler’s football squad from 1938 to 1940 and helped anchor one of the finest backfields in college football history. He served as quarterback in Crisler's single-wing system, where he called the offensive signals and was lead blocker on running plays. He was an all-Big Ten Conference performer three straight seasons. As captain in 1940, he paved the way for running back Tom Harmon, who won the Heisman Trophy that season. Crisler later called Evashevski the greatest quarterback he ever had. After his Michigan career, Evashevski revitalized the Iowa football program, where he coached the Hawkeyes to two Rose Bowl championships in the 1950s. Evashevski had a record of 52-27-4 at Iowa, where he served as athletic director from 1960 to 1970. In 2000, Evashevski was enshrined into the College Football Hall of Fame.
