Elroy Hirsch

Induction:
1984

Elroy "Crazy Legs" Hirsch is one of the most versatile athletes ever to have been a Wolverine. When assigned to the University of Michigan for schooling as a member of the Marine Corps V-12 Unit in 1943, he attained All-America status for a second time. During that same year, he became the only athlete in Wolverine history to win letters in four major sports by lettering in football, basketball, track and baseball. His wildly disjointed style of running with the ball earned him the name that fans loved and opponents feared "Crazy Legs". Following a stellar career in the NFL, Hirsch became Director of Athletics at the University of Wisconsin. He is a member of both the College and Professional Football Halls of Fame.
