2002

Elmer Dayton Mitchell continues to be renowned throughout the country and the world as the "Father of Intramurals." In 1919, Mitchell became the Director of Intramural Sports at U-M and worked under the motto "Athletics for All." Under Mitchell's administration, the University intramural program received national recognition and acclaim and in time served to be a model for future intramural directors.
