One of the greatest track athletes in U.S. history, Donald McEwen led Michigan's track squads in the early 1950s. Â A national high school record holder, the Montreal, Canada, native set numerous meet, field house and stadium records in both indoor and outdoor track seasons. McEwen twice set American and World records in the indoor two mile. He also took first-place finishes in the NCAA outdoor two mile, which resulted in 1950 and 1951 All-America accolades. McEwen added Big Ten one- and two-mile victories to his list of individual accomplishments. Captain of the 1951-52 team, McEwen anchored Michigan's distance relay teams, which set the 1951 American outdoor and 1952 world records.Â
