Dave Gillanders

David Gillanders made an immediate impact on the Michigan swim team, winning NCAA titles in the 100 and 200 butterfly and the 400-yard medley relay, along the way helping U-M claim the 1959 team national championship. He again swept the national titles in the butterfly events in 1961, leading U-M to yet another national team title. Gillanders went on to have a decorated international career, winning a gold medal at the 1959 Pan American Games and a bronze medal at the 1960 Olympics. He received a Ph.D. in engineering from U-M in 1972.
